Subject: BOD DEADPOOL 2023

Here’s how it all works:

Pick 10 celebrities (if they have a Wikipedia page, they count) who you think will die before the end of 2023. You get to name one celebrity as your Franchise pick. When you franchise someone, no one else can pick that person. If someone has already picked a person, you cannot franchise them. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE, BITCHES.

SCORING:

Points are scored as followed:
Age 0-30: 10 points
Age 31-50: 8 points
Age 51-70: 4 points
Age 71+: 2 points
Pre-Existing Condition: 1/2 points to the above

A “Pre-Existing Condition” MUST be a health condition that immediately threatens the person's life. Magic Johnson may have HIV, but the fact is that he's been living with it since the early 90s, medicine has really evolved, and he’s probably healthier and in better condition than any of us. So that would NOT be a preexisting condition. Al Roker on the other hand… yikes. Not much good news about him out there these days, is there?

Pre-existing conditions MUST BE CALLED by another participant in the pool before that celebrity dies. You can’t call a pre-existing condition on someone after they die and say “oh, that should have been called.” By then the time to call has passed (like the celebrity).

On issues like drug use, mental health (e.g. stuff like past suicide attempts or a pattern of erratic unsafe behavior), Dr. A will make a person-by-person call on whether to accept that as a preexisting condition.

REPLACEMENT PICKS:

If someone you pick dies, you get to replace them on your list. If your franchise pick dies, the person you select is designated a franchise pick, so no one else can select them.

SPECIAL RULES:

The Joe “STORMFIRE” Gattus Memorial Mr. Perfect Rule: If you pick someone who is already dead, and who rises from the dead only to die again, you automatically win the league.

The I Shouldn’t Have to Say This Rule: You will be disqualified from the deadpool and automatically lose if you personally kill any of the celebrities to get points. This is strictly prohibited.

The BOB Rule: If you draft anyone with a form of Bob / Robert as their name, you may BLOCK one Pre-Existing Condition call and that person will be worth full points, even with such a condition. This may be done only once. If you have a team of 10 Bobs, only 1 may be protected from the PE call.

The Ms. C Rule: If you pick Sasha Banks (Mercedes Varnado), your team will begin the year with -37 points.

The BOD Deadpool begins at MIDNIGHT EST on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Picks sent in before this
There is a SOFT, informal close date of MIDNIGHT Feb 1 that will not be strictly enforced if new people wish to join the league afterwards. There will be no formal hard close to when you can submit your picks as there was in previous years. So, if you only find out about this thing in July and want to join in then, feel free. Just know that by then half the year is already gone and you’ll likely be playing catch-up with others. However, also note that if you submit a list after Feb 1, it might be a while before Dr. A gets around to updating your information and adding you in to the official scoring document. Which is this document right here.

In July, Dr. A may allow for a mid-year opportunity to allow people to drop picks and replace them. This will depend on sustained activity / interest.

The 2023 Deadpool ends at 11:59:59 PM on December 31, 2023 EST, after which a winner will be awarded
