Subject: Venting Fun (You Blister My Paint)

I'm not sure why I'm posting this here, probably because I can vent without fear of everyone that reads this saying "Eric, that's a pretty stupid thing to vent about", since I don't see many of you that often face-to-face. Anyway, I was at Target today. I saw a Dragonball uncut tapes for $14.99. Now, it being uncut which Target rarely ever has, and if I were at a major video retailer then these tapes would be about 19.99 so naturally, I picked one up (It was Ginyu Assault, if you're interested in knowing). So I go to the counter, it's rung in, and I get this from the cashier:
"Buying this for your little brother. That's nice of you." To which I replied, "No, it's for me." Silence for a few seconds. I get a smartass look from some ugly woman a few meters away from me. "Oh... You know, we're having a special on those Pokemon tapes, they're $9.99 instead of $12.99..."
"No, thank you, I don't like that show." Picked up the bad with the video, gone.

Now, the unfortunate part is, I don't blame the cashier. It wasn't her fault. It's the fault of companies like FUNimation, DiC, Nelvana and Saban for absolutely destroying the reputation of anime in North America. You know what someone who appreciates anime watches? "Cartoons." If you like anime, you like cartoons. "When will we grow out of it? So immature..." It really pisses me off that I can't buy anime without getting some smartass look from someone, or getting a remark like that. It really, really pisses me off. I really believe a major network (NBC, CTV) should show a mature anime, and show it uncut. Evangellion, Macross, Mononoke Hime or Ninja Scroll would quickly change quite a few people's views on what we watch. Another part of me wishes I would have told the cashier that Dragonball is not a cartoon just for little kids, but is enjoyed by all ages in Japan, and should be here, as well. To that she would have said something like "Nooo, you're wrong", and I would have said "Noooo, I'm right", and that would have shut her up real good. Just thought I'd share my pain.
