The dragoness gulped deeply and moved herself closer to Shifter for comfort. Her tears were swept by Shifter, but soon a little more came. After a while they were soon dried off. It's not your fault, Shifter... Not your fault... Mine... All mine... Star kept muttering, shaking her head slightly from side to side. Suddenly all that stopped. She cursed very softly to herself, knowing that she might regret this later on in life. A deep breath is taken, savoring the last moment of being under his strong and warm arms, then takes a step away with a dipped dial and closed eyes. My past is long, but I must tell you... it is not a pleasurable one. Star gulped again, now not sure if she should even tell her story. Yes..yes...tell him your story. You'll probably regret it later on. I'm not saying you will... I'm just sayin' that you might. Said a voice in her head. Quickly she looked around, thinking that it was someone close by. Her eyes glanced over at Shifter, knowing now that he had the power of mind-reading. He could probably hear what the voice said in her mind, too. Star cleared her throat and again looked around for maybe a comfortable place to lay. She shrugged her shoulders and just laid down where she was. My story begins in a human village where dragons were ridden. Our masters were very wonderful. They were very kind and gentle with us indeed. But one day an evil curse was set across the land so that every human would then be against us dragons. Knives, pitchforks, swords and other weapons were held in the hands of each human alive in the village. We were all scared. So upon some humans already killing either the weak hatchlings or the older, less strong, dragons we flew away. Where we didn't know. Just somewhere where humans would never harm us. I was but a small drakling at the time and my mother was lucky to rescue me for I was in the strong hands of my man master and my mother already has a huge gash in the membrane of her wing. I still have a scar from where my master had almost cut my tail. My mother flew me away. We were behind all the other dragons for my mom was a while before she saved me. Son afterwards we caught up to the other. We flew for a very long time. It felt like forever. I was a sleep when we finally found land. My mother nestled my under her wings and all dragon went to sleep. It was then when I woke up. I could hear the soft snoring of the others as I walked pat them. I still wasn�t able to fly just yet but I could glide. So I glided from rock to rock, curious about my new surroundings. I think I had to battle a snake once in my exploration. Anyway, while I was exploring, I scented something that I had not recognized. Small puffs of gray soon started to flow past me. I coughed and turned around to see all the other dragons awoken by the smell. My mother suddenly grabbed my with her hands and flew high above the trees. I tried to ask her what was happening but it was hard to talk when air was pushing against you. When we finally landed, I asked her, "What happened Moma?" She then replied , "A fire has started and we will have to rest here tonight, honey." I nodded and then went back to sleep. It had been a while until I woke up. All other dragons were either exploring or eating. My mother was eating a large buck that she had probably killed while I was a sleep. I happily ran over to her, nuzzled up to her and ate beside her. Shouts of terror suddenly came to everyone�s alert. My mother pulled me close, and I knew that she was getting ready to fly. Humans had found our secret place. The warriors of our flock stayed to defend the females, hatchlings and drakes. A human had come our way before my mother could lift off and before a warrior could defend us. I flapped my wings, knowing I could only go up about 50 feet, and tried to escape. Suddenly I felt some type of blow. After a few moments I realized that the leader of the flock grabbed me. I thought it was my mom at first. I tried to look down at the bloody scene but he covered my eyes. We flew several more miles to a very beautiful and secret place that we knew would work this time. The leader landed and put me down. "Where�s Moma?" I asked him with sad and curious eyes. "Your� Your mothers gone, I�m afraid." He said to me softly, almost in a whisper. "Will she come back?" I asked him. "No.. I�m sorry, Dark Star." That night I huddled with him and cuddled next to his warm body like I use to do with my mother. When I was old enough to fend for myself, our forest had burned up by another fire. I was the only lucky one to escape. Now I have lived my life, exploring and trying to find a home. Now I have found one. Her story ended there, small tears starting to fall down her cheek again but not as much.
