Subject: Trying to outwit a ward...

...i actually meant to bring this up at our "experimental" meeting, but i was too zonked by the end. chris, rob told me that you were unable to copy that book in any way, shape or form, right? Even like scanning it didn't work. to opur knowledge the book was written before the mainstream implementation of computers, right (in light of events, do we even know when the computer was "invented"?)? Well, taking that into account i think i have an idea of how to get around that ward. For it to prevent you from copying the book by means that, assumedly, wouldn't be on the mind of whomever wrote it the means by which the text prevents duplication must not be based upon the act of duplicating itself. it's my guess that whatever spell is on that book would prevent duplication based upon the intent of whoever is trying to duplicate the text. it couldn't be scanned not because it's "unscannable" but because whatever spell is in place is cued to frustrate whatever efforts someone who thinks "i'm gonna copy this book..." attempts. so, i think we should ask Eduna to try and copy it. her mind, intelligence, what-have-you while it seems to be identical to ours functionally it isn't biologically, or even "magically" for that matter. I don't think Eduna will trigger whatever protections have been placed on the text because while she is an "intelligence" she isn't a "human" intelligence (or at least probably not an intelligence that fit into the person who warded that book's paradigm).

...that is of couse unless you've already tried this and it's already failed.

-richard
