Subject: Another Birth

As Dusk was falling and Ryan was making final checks he was a little concerned as he looked in on Amazon. He was sure she would give birth tonight, but she looked distressed, not like she had in previous foaling. She looked up at him, whites showing in her eyes, but she didn't pin her ears back. Ryan sat with her, gently petting and pursuading her. She was getting very tired, but the foal was coming. It was a big one, it could see it's dainty hooves coming. He began to pull them to help Amazon. Forelegs followed hooves, then a tiny wet muzzle. Amazon grinted and the foals head came through followed quickly by the rest of it's slippery small body. Steam rose from the newborn in the cold air. The mare turned to lick her baby. Ryan put a rug over her shoulders, but left her quarters clear so the foal could suckle. It was a little filly foal. Although she was still dark and wet, Ryan had an idea she might be liver chestnut, like the stallion. The worst was over now and they would be OK, but he decided he would come and check early in the morning...
