She spurs her horse onward, racing the wind. Over marshy wetlands and barren fields, across a rickety wooden bridge, high above the water�s edge, through an evergreen forest where eerie shadows played tricks with the mortal eye, until she arrived at the foot of her father�s castle. Many years had passed since the kingdom of Evenshire had last seen her face; she was no longer the careless young girl, but a beautiful woman, proud and regal.

A stable hand rushes up, prepared to take the reins, but with a good-natured wave she brushes him away. "'Tis all right. You have other things to do, there�s no reason why I can�t see to the brute myself." With a nod he steps back, relief setting in, for that was one less thing that he had to worry about. "Thank you m�lady," he whispers, walking away before she had a chance to change her mind.

Indeed, Elizabeth longed to see her mother again. To embrace her family, but that would have to wait. The memories of times long ago came back to her in a sudden rush, but she shook them off, seeing to the task at hand before allowing her imagination to take flight.
