Well, it's a pleasure to see we have visitors from outside the duchy. (As a side note, this webpage is devoted to an online RPG for AOL-users. It's free and really fun. Email me if you want the links :) )
My beliefs will be put in the "Liber's Thoughts" section over time but for now, the board will be a way for me to address the issues which you all want to find out about *now*.
My faith in the individual is summarized here:
I believe that in order to decide what moral code I should live by or what I should do with my life, I must find out what separates me from my environment. What traits do I have that are unique to the world around me. I can think and create autonomously. Virtually all people can. (I will discuss disabilities or mental illness at a later time.) That's what makes people different from rocks, trees, running water, etc. So it is from these unique traits that I draw my beliefs about the individual.
Since the ability to function autonomously is a special trait, we should use this whenever possible. So we must protect the possibility of independence at all cost. The next question becomes, How do we preserve independence and individuality?
I find that all individuals should have a reasonable expectation to life and liberty. I say reasonable for there *is* one limit. The expectation cannot infringe on another individual's life or liberty. By this I mean, the expectation to liberty does not grant me the right to enslave for this would be an assault on somebody else's liberty.
Indeed, the expectation to life and liberty are all important for they protect my ability to perform the thing that separates me from ants, squids, and fine wine. I am sentient. Therefore, I should do everything in my power to benefit from sentience without destroying others with this characteristic.
Any infringement on these individual expectations I've laid out would be what I call the use of force or coercion. The initiation of Force is downright evil because it is depriving sentient individuals the right to do what separates them from Well.. You get the point :).
Now, derived from this belief that the initiation of force is evil, I have determined that tolerance is the ultimate good. No matter how strong my beliefs, I cannot impose them on anybody because I cannot initiate force. Making somebody follow the path of Ego over Athyria is taking their right to liberty. Thus the concept of freedom and liberty.
What should we do once we have determined how to protect our individuality? Self-improvement. Self-improvement is the ideal goal. I believe that by asserting our individuality we can move on and succeed in the world. Once we have determined all this about ourselves we can capture the Hero in man. In effect, Ego is the Hero in man. Ego is to be worshipped. Ego is a god that lay in all of us.
Welcome to the Temple of Ego,
A Place to Worship Yourself ;)
