AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT ON DISPLAY AT LOCAL CATHOLIC CHURCH
CLEVELAND, OH June 27, 2005 – The Church of Saint Clarence will host The NAMES Project Foundation AIDS Memorial Quilt from August 29, 2005 through September 4, 2005 in the church Gathering Room. The Quilt travels around the United States to raise AIDS awareness.
Conceived of in 1985 by activist Cleve Jones, the AIDS Memorial Quilt has been helping to put a human face on the AIDS epidemic. Now sponsored by the NAMES Project Foundation and numbering more than 44,000 panels, the Quilt is the world’s largest community art project. Each panel of the quilt bears the name of a life lost to AIDS. The Quilt has become a powerful tool in heightening AIDS awareness in communities, workplaces, churches, and schools. James Buccini, Quilt committee head at Saint Clarence, says “I feel strongly about our parish opening its doors and hearts to all who will be touched by the Quilt display. I believe the quilt has two purposes. We will remember lives lost to AIDS, yet we will embrace this moment as a chance to broaden our awareness and understanding.”
The Quilt will be displayed from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., daily in the Gathering Room at the Church of Saint Clarence in North Olmsted. Talks and discussions on the topic of AIDS will be hosted throughout the week. All donations will go directly to local AIDS organizations. For more information, contact James Buccini or see the AIDS Memorial Quilt website at www.aidsquilt.org.
