I'm an employee at the local Wild Oats in Cleveland (Woodmere) and I wanted to come here to vent my outrage at the turn of events over the past few days and let everyone here know about this. We started carrying the magazine The Advocate because it's on our approved list (from our corporate office) and we wanted to make it available. It was selling and everything was fine. But then some angry man called and complained to our store director about it. I don't know what his complaint was, but he was the ONLY person that lodged complaint with us regarding the magazine. Our bigoted store director, David Cloud came charging out of his office, screaming about how we could carry a gay magazine and saying it certainly can't be approved. When he was told otherwise he said that he personally didn't approve of it and he wanted it pulled from the shelves and never sold at the store again. The issue in question is the August 30, 2005 issue which we looked through numerous times and can find nothing that can be construed offensive (at least, not more offensive then the various "health" magazines we carry that feature scantily clad females and males on the covers and all throughout the insides.) That prejudice was bad enough, yes? But it gets worse. So, Dave Cloud want to strike the sales of that magazine because of his own bigotry and ONE customer complaint (though he's lying now and saying he received numerous complaints), right? Well, he also wants our magazine buyer to call the corporate office and tell them that we should take The Advocate off of the approved list!! He (and the customer) referred to it as PORNOGRAPHY! Please call (216) 464-9403 to give Dave Cloud, store director, a piece of your mind. You can also e-mail the Wild Oats CEO Perry Odak (podak@wildoats.com) to tell him what you think of the company's decision to hire such a closed-minded, bigoted person to run a store. Please, spread the word and BOYCOTT THE WILD OATS ON CHAGRIN BLVD. IN WOODMERE, OHIO.
