I lived in Vic for a couple of years, in Warrandyte.

re: Tolkien.
I'm not sure about that one. I think in a lot of ways Dart-Thornton is much easier to read than Tolkien although a pal of mine said she found TIMM "too clever" in parts. I read LOTR as a young teen and had a lot of trouble with some parts of it and with the way it jumped around all over the place. Its only in the past few years that I've been reading more background and historical information that a lot of the questions I had about LOTR have been answered. But I doubt anyone will ever pull off another such complete many-layered tale like Tolkien - afterall, it was the guys life work. Having said that though, I don't think Tolkien is the ultimate. For anyone who is not willing to completely immerse themselves in middle earth, including all the historical and geographical information then it can be a very hard read.

Cheers!

Nidri
