Subject: Brownlow Cup- Buckminister V Barrowby

Having been away from the great game for 15 months I was keen to play in this 18 over cup extravaganza!

Barrowby having been inserted notched up a very good 118 off their 18 overs. (C.F.G Hubbard 3).

However Barrowby were restricted to two seamers due to work commitments and I was enjoying watch their openers send the ball to all areas of the lush outfield and shortish boundary. You can imagine my surprise and horror having seen 5 sixes in the last two overs, to be thrown the ball with 22 runs to be protected.

Noidly i came up for my first delivery it was a jaffa and spun away from the bat and taken by our padless wicket keeper.

Brilliant i thought the mapestar was back to his 1999 best.

However.

Long hop misfield by Hubbard (4 runs)
Half volley 4 through the covers.
Wide.
Quicker ball cleared batsmans head easily without pitching.(no ball)
4
.

Overall a shaky start.

Next over I was determined to go out fighting.

First ball quicker one. Batsman played and missed.

Second ball double bluff another quicker one another . ball

Third ball spun in caught the pad.Polite appeal with polite denial.

.

Fifth ball time for the legendary chinamen.Outside edge caught at slip! MAPLETOFT STRIKES!

Sixth ball Dan Bates smashes the ball back over my head and wins the game.

The ups and downs of cricket similar to Hawainan mushrooms starts of with general merriment. Then a period of intense stress, fear and all round darkness. Then a tremendous feeling of well being. Then you realise everything is shit after all but there you must look for the funny things.

Mapletoft 2-0-18-1
