Subject: Where's RUBBERHEAD?!

I'm finding myself nostalgic about CHS and it comes as a surprise. Thought about many of you over the years, but never considered myself to be a nostalgia type of person.
Now that I have read the message section of this site I find myself wondering about many people who have posted messages and more who have not. The only CHS alumni I have had contact with are Chris Bates, Tom Goucher, Ron and Arlene (Chiefo) Long and Bill Pick. How many of you remember them? Wheres RUBBERHEAD? Last I heard, back in the Eighties, he was in Yeehaw Junction.
So many questions. How the #&!! did Ken Shakeshaft get the garbage can on top of the flagpole the last day of school in '73? I heard a teacher had something to do with that.
When we were there we knew who each other were. We were 'necks, jocks and heads. I know of so few now but thanks to Jenny and her website I am getting some idea about a few of you. Never was a poetry buff but I find myself reading and enjoying Mike Haymans poems, why? because of nostalgia I suppose...I was a "head" and Mike wasn't, didn't know him well but now I know him better for his poems. Thanks Mike. Brought back memories of George Cavanaughs priceless ranting called "The Seaweed Barks at Me". ( I think it made the '73 yearbook.. I'll have to look it up.)
Saw a reference to Stan Lowe and a band..He was older than me but I think his band in HS practiced across the canal from me. I could hear them out of our sliding glass doors when I was learning to play bass guitar. How much did that have effect on me? I played with Ed Goucher,Kevin Kennedy, Steve Reager, Gary Ward and Phil Shondell in my high school band years later and we did pretty good. Played the SW Fla. high school dance circuit in '71-'73. (Sweet Revenge"..remember?)Wheres Gary? Phil? Kevin? Do any of the older alumni remember a band called "The People in Me"? Norman Lendzion played in that one and also was an influence. He and his brother Frank lived across the street from me in Port Charlotte. I don't see or hear from these people but they helped shape my life since I still play the bass, now in Church and a Christian Rock band. Turned out that my wife Rita (Caudill) has a fantastic singing voice and she also sings on our praise team. I know no one knew she could sing 'cause I married her just after she graduated and I didn't know for years.
Does anyone remember the "Mr. Crazy Legs" dance in the old cafeteria in '73? Sweet Revenge played that night and put on the worst performance of our lives. Mr. Seley (chemistry teacher) won the "Mr. Crazy Legs" award as I recall.I'm amazed I recall anything from that night. Steve Whitaker had to remind me that my car went home wih my girlfriend at the time, and that I was at CHS(I thought we were at another school and my car had been stolen).Must have been something I ate...boy was I glad to see him. Wheres's he? He and Gary Ward were my best friends, played music together for years.
Saw a post from Pete Harnum...used to call him "Sneaky Pete", his dad was our arch enemy since he was a detective for Charlotte county. Remember the "Freaks and Fuzz" softball games? Pete on one side and his dad on the other I think.
Okay, I think I have it out of my system now. Please email me if anyone knows about any of these people. I don't know if any of you remember Rita and I and appologise for not being able to be closer to you all. You come back to my memory as you were in '73. None of us are the same as we were, I hope all of us are the better for our years. Thanks CHS for educating me in spite of myself. Thanks Jenny and Paul and all who contributed to the reunion, I will not miss another if the Lord lets me live. Thanks to all who have sent in posts, I have read them all. Appologies to Mrs. Green (english) for spelling, punctuation and context mistakes, I know you taught me better. Best wishes to all and God bless. Bernard Allan
