Subject: My memories of Hurricane Donna

I remember Donna fairly well. we lived in South Punta Gorda Heights at the time. Actually we always lived in SPGH but what does it matter?. My father boarded up all of the windows, except for the one in the bathroomn for some reason, and we filled up ebathtub with water. We cooked with bottled gas instead of electricity so we were okay there. My father worked for Pyrofax gas so we pulled our car up next to the house then he parked his gas truck on the other side of the car. I remember my mother yelling that the roof off of the house next door was blowing through our back yard. During the lull when the eye passed over my dad went out in his truck and took some hot food and coffee to some elderly neighbors down the street. I also remeber hearing about a guy who was driving an empty tractor-trailer across the bridge in Ft. Myers who got blown off of the bridge and they found the truck UP river. The next day, or perhaps two days later, we went out lookiing around and it was a real mess.
