Belarusian ambassador presents credentials to pope

Minsk, 20 May. Belarusian Ambassador Vladimir Korolyov
presented his credentials to Pope John Paul II on May 17,
said the press office of the Belarusian foreign ministry.
After the ceremony, Mr. Korolyov met with Angelo Sodano,
Vatican's secretary of state.
Mr. Korolyov said that Catholicism is an integral part of
Belarus' multi-century history and that the church plays an
important role in spiritual and national rebirth of the
Belarusian people.
Cardinal Sodano noted that Belarusian society is
characterized by ethnic and denominational harmony and that
Vatican sees no problems in relations between Belarusian
society and the state.
Before presenting his credentials, Mr. Korolyov met with
Jean-Louis Toran, state secretary for foreign affairs, the
deputy state secretary, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri and other
Vatican officials.
