Isaiah 14:12-15 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
The desire for praise and exultation is a dangerous thing. It is the trait or driving force of the narcissist. It cost Lucifer his place in heaven and has been the root of untold sorrow on earth ever since.
The narcissistic person, as Lucifer has the driving force of wanting to be number one. He wants to hear the accolades and to be had in awe and wonder by his worshipful followers. He wants the red carpet treatment everywhere he goes and wants heads to turn when he enters a room full of people. He wants to be as the magnificent eagle and soar among the clouds. He wants a god-like power over people.
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do."(John 8:44) God has a problem with the person who is so self centered he can't see his own faults. He is full of unwarranted pride in himself and it blinds him to reality. This kind of pride is anathema to God and will bring punishment on that person because it heads the list of things God hates. Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
All seven of these traits are combined in the narcissist. He may not have murdered but he has thought about it and has mused on how good it would be if his opponent was dead. These are predominate traits in many, if not most, of our politicians in Washington and the state houses across our land. They can be found in governor's houses as well as congress. They can be found pounding the gavel in courtrooms. They are our leaders and we suffer the more because of it.
These accusations would be denied by all if they were confronted but their actions speak louder than their denials. Lucifer (Satan), no doubt, would have denied much of the accusations leveled against him by God if it wasn't for the wording carefully placed before us in verse 13. "For thou hast said in thine heart". God did not accuse Lucifer of shouting these desires from a pinnacle. No, God just said to hm. "thou has said in thine heart". Satan dreamed of one day experiencing the reality of his fondest dreams and God judged his heart. "For as he (any man) thinketh in his heart, so is he:" (Prov. 23:7)
We can look back through history and see the results of the narcissistic people in power. We can readily see the harm they have done to the citizens under their rule. We can see the harm or destruction of nations, as Germany with Hitler, or France under Napoleon. We can look at Rome under the Godless Caesars and by doing so can see where we are headed. We are a nation that has fallen under the leadership that professes God with their mouth but their hearts have been far from Him. Most if not all had the common desire to be number 1. All wanted to be looked up to by the people. All wanted a legacy of soaring above the humble crowds below.
This is the sad state of not only America but also of the world. May God's people always be humble realizing all our righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64:6) and we deserve nothing more that His judgment for our failings.
Thank God for His marvelous grace!
