Subject: Let There Be Light

Genesis 1:3-4 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

One of the most profound truths to be found in the Bible is revealed in these two verses. As we read of the creation in Genesis 1 we see that God said "Let there be light". He never once had to say "Let there be darkness"! Darkness is the absence of light. It is a condition of normality. In computer terminology it is the "default" condition. Before God gave that all important command there was total darkness in the area of the creation. As to the 3rd heaven which is the abode of God I feel light has always abounded for "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." (1 John 1:5)

Notice what God did when He created the light. He separated it from the darkness. Darkness can't exist when light is present. On the outside of the bushel it may be dark but under the bushel with the lit candle it is light. Light must be covered or it will dispel all darkness.

In order for these verses to hold relevant meaning to us we must discern the spiritual truths that are brought out in these few profound words that God had Moses pen when he wrote Genesis. For instance Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Here we see the natural condition of man in spiritual matters. The understanding is darkened because their heart or soul is blind to the things of God. If you are truly blind you cannot perceive light although you may be bathed in it. The darkness of a person with no eyes is profound. Jesus put it this way: "But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! " (Matthew 6:23) Evil is equated to darkness and light is equated to righteousness in spiritual matters. Only God is holy and righteous. God is light. When He is seen He is bright above the strength of the sun. Saul of Tarsus saw this light and was blind for three days. Such is the brightness of God. When John saw what could be seen of God he said that His "countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength." (Revelation 1:16). This is the Holy God.

The "anti-god" is quite the opposite of our God of Light. He is the "god of this world" (2 Cor.4:4) and it may well be said of him that "in him is no light". He is total darkness as no part of God's light reaches into him. In the creation we see the pattern that is displayed throughout the Bible. While Satan is not actually on display he is shown in type. The darkness was there just as the serpent was lurking in the Garden of Eden. He had to wait until God (the Light) was not around Adam and Eve before he could work his darkness in their lives.

Ever since that fateful day when darkness entered into man it has been darkness that ruled over mans soul. To grasp this truth look at a few verses God has placed in His word concerning the course that man and the world will take. "And the evening and the morning were the first day" (Gen.1:5) Do you see how God started the calendar by proclaiming the day (and world) would begin with the darkness of night and the light would not be seen until the darkness had finished it's course? Twelve hours of night then twelve hours of day. God's first week of creation started with God dispelling darkness showing that indeed the darkness comes before the light.

Think now of our own condition. Christian; did your life not start in darkness before the Light of Jesus entered into your soul. Didn't it illuminate your soul and dispel the darkness that was there? Let the words penned by Isaiah sink in. Isaiah 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Where were these people walking? They were walking in darkness until Jesus shined on them. The apostle Paul knew firsthand of that light as he was blinded by it for three days. He wrote this in 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

While we believe that we see, (as Paul thought he did) we actually are in spiritual darkness until that true light shines in our hearts. Notice it is in the hearts of man and not received through the eyes. This is the light of salvation that shines to the soul redeeming it and making us children of light. " While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.---- " ( John 12:36) Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Paul talking to the Church at Thessalonica entreated the saints there: "Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness." (1 Thessalonians 5:5)

All must come to this Light in order to be a child of God. We walk in darkness until the light shines in our hearts. If we do not let this light in then we forever are children of darkness.

John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. Anyone who has not come to this Light is still abiding in the darkness he or she was born into. Jesus is calling all to come to His light and obtain eternal redemption. Wouldn't it be much better to bathe in the Light of God's love than to suffer the torments of fires and darkness of hell?

If any one reading this has never come to the Light I must ask. Why have you not? Time is fleeting and will soon run out. As a moth comes to a light won't you fly to the pure Light?

There are so many who will never come to the light. That is what Hell is for. I'm so glad that You, dori and I all found the light. Praise God.

about fifty six years ago and it has never gone out.

I have tried to cover it and put it under a bushel but God never let me alone as long as it was under the bushel and not on top. I am now trying to keep it in the open to shine to every one who will open the door to that Light.

Good to see you back posting.

Yes, I tried to hide it until God put me in a very serious situation and the only way that I had of getting out of it was to let it shine through.

Without the light of knowing God as our personal Savior, we are in darkness. Praise God that we have seen His light and our hope should be that we don't fall short of the mark when that light is shone upon us--that we don't ever leave that Holy Light.
