Psalms 33:3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
Psalms 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
Psalms 96:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
Psalms 98:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
Psalms 144:9 I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.
Psalms 149:1 Praise ye the LORD. Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise in the congregation of saints.
Isaiah 42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Revelation 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
Anyone who studies the Bible can't help but come away with the knowledge that God loves it when people sing songs of praise to His honor and glory. Singing has always had a prominent place in worship. When Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem there were 50 singers who stood and sang while it was in building and they sang until it was done. I suppose they sang during the day while the work was proceeding and went home at evening as the workers did. While the work for the Lord was proceeding the singing was proceeding also.
Singing was not only done in the services and the special time of the building of the Temple but also in time of war. 2 Chronicles 20:21-22 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
The first 9 verses cited speak of a "New Song" and surely they speak mostly of a time when in Heaven God will give us a new song that the angels cannot sing. It will be a song of the redeemed. In Revelation 14 it is the 144,000 redeemed from the earth and no one can learn that song but the 144,000.
Regardless of the words or melody the song they sing or we sing will be songs of praise to our Master and Redeemer. There will be wondrous joy in our song. There will be an element to our song that cannot be mastered here on earth while in the flesh and robed in a body of sin. However when the shackles are broken and our spirit set free then we can truly glorify God in and unfettered way an in perfect harmony which cannot be achieved by the natural man.
All this sounds great and wonderful as we contemplate this wonderful time but God still wants us to lift our voices in singing to Him even as prisoners in a world gone mad with heartache and pain on every side. In sorrow, pain, sickness we are to be as Paul and Silas as they sang from the prison. He wants us to sing when we see the degradation of the the world in chaos.
You might think that is crazy but let me tell you this. Nothing frees the Christian from the mental chains placed on us by a world that hates God and His ways. Therefore when it seems bad sing praises to God and be blessed in whatsoever situation you find yourself in.
GOD WANTS TO HEAR YOU SING
Their chains were fastened tight
Down at the jail that night
Still Paul and Silas would not be dismayed
They said, "It's time to lift our voice,
Sing praises to the Lord
Let's prove that we will trust Him, come what may."
God wants to hear you sing
When the waves are crashing round you
When the fiery darts surround you
When despair is all you see
God wants to hear your voice
When the wisest man has spoken
And says your circumstance is as hopeless as can be
That's when God wants to hear you sing
He loves to hear our praise
On our cheerful days
When the pleasant times out weigh the bad, by far
But when suffering comes along
And we still sing His song
That is when we bless the Father's heart
God wants to hear you sing
When the waves are crashing round you
When the fiery darts surround you
When despair is all you see
God wants to hear your voice
When the wisest man has spoken
And says you circumstance is as hopeless as can be
That's when God wants to hear you sing
God wants to hear you sing
When the waves are crashing round you
When the firey darts surround you
When despair is all you see
God wants to hear your voice
When the wisest man has spoken
And says your circumstance is as hopeless as can be
That's when God wants to hear you sing
God wants to hear you sing
God wants to hear you sing
Psalms 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
