Subject: How Full is Our Cup

Genesis 15:16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

"For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full." In the 15th chapter of Genesis we see that Abram has "gone back to Bethel" and is in favor again with God. God is in the process of making a covenant with Abram in which He asks nor demands anything in return. In fact if you will read the context you will find God has told him to prepare a sacrifice but not to put fire to it. As the sun sets a very deep and fearful sleep and darkness falls on Abram in which it is described as a horror.

While Abram is in this state of inability to do anything but listen God speaks to him and tells him the northern and southern boundaries of the land He has promised to him. He not only makes the promise to him but to his "seed" after him. He then burns the sacrifice with a "smoking furnace and a burning lamp".

God also proceeds to tell him he can't have it now but after 400 years his seed will come back to this land and claim it. God then tells why the wait: "For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full." God would not drive out the Amorites until their iniquity was as full as God would allow it to get.

There is a rock solid truth you can take to the bank. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. The longsuffering and patience of God works on and in pagan and Christian alike. God gives all a chance to turn from their wicked ways and turn back to Him.

Revelation 2:20-23 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. 21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. 23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

In Daniel 8:23 there is a prophecy of the anti-Christ and it makes it plain that the events described will be "when the transgressors are come to the full ". When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah He did so only after the sins become so black that He would no longer tolerate it.

God is patient and longsuffering but there are limits. This should give us pause to wonder just how close we in the United States are to the threshold we dare not cross. How full is our cup of iniquity?

God cries out to us all across this nation that was exalted so high yet now is headed so low, to repent and turn back to Him.

Will we repent as Nineveh under the preaching of Jonah, or will we be one of the nations turned into hell. (Psalm 9:17)

The choice is ours but I have little hope!

are partially a result of my teaching Genesis to my twin grand-daughters in Home School.

I have been trying to get them familiar with the whole Bible but am teaching specific books. The first semester was the Book of John and now we are up to chapter 16 in Genesis.

I am very thankful to my Lord that He has given me the opportunity to help them in their Christian education and walk.

I am glad you enjoying it. Possibly more thoughts will come as we proceed through Genesis.

It is so sad to see America turn its back on the Christian faith that made us so great, while preaching tolerance for all other religions, or no religion at all, that make a mockery of God's Word. Very sad to think of what the world will be like for our grandchildren. I'm so happy you are bringing the Word to your precious granddaughters in their daily studies. It will serve them well into adulthood. 8-)

I will be gone for about a week. My daughter had her hip replacement surgery yesterday and is already home and doing very well. Her medication has worn off, so she will have a rough go for the next few days, I'm afraid. I don't know why they don't give them more than 24 hours worth, but I guess they don't want the patient to become addicted, although that's hardly likely after two or three days. She could use your continued prayers, Hillbilly and Gerry. Thank you!

I don't understand that at all!. They sent Dale home with 2 weeks worth of pain meds and then she got one refill.

She is almost back to normal. Walking very well. Going up and down stairs and doing her exercises.

She had home health for rehab and it has worked great.

I have to believe that you must trust the doctor's judgment on this matter. Maybe she won't need it anymore. If she does I'm certain that the doctor can prescribe some more if she needs it. .
