Subject: The Joyful Song

Exodus 15:2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Moses and the children of Israel had just witnessed the overthrow of Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea and there was jubilation. This verse is part of the "Song of Moses" as recorded in the Book of Exodus. What strikes me about this verse is it's timelessness and how it spans the dispensations as God dealt with man.

No matter what age lived in the LORD has always been man's strength. Without God we are nothing. God without man is still God. Moses knew where all his strength and power resided and it was in God and not him. He was the un-eloquent fugitive sheep herder in the land of Midian until apprehended by the LORD at a burning bush.

It was God who overcame Moses' fear and lack of self assurance and not Moses. It was God who worked through his "rod" and his brother Aaron. It was God who sent the plagues and destroyed Egypt and Moses was simply the tool through whom God worked.

In our own lives we may say the same. If there is anything done; anything accomplished of merit for God it is God working through us.

"The LORD is my------song". Moses was overjoyed and he sang. Christians who know the Lord are full of joy. It bursts forth into singing. It is an impulsive singing that "just happens". I have many times just burst forth in singing praises to my God and Lord. You don't think: "Well I think I will sing a song to my Saviour". No, no and no. It is the Spirit of God moving in you and it just bursts forth in singing and joy.

You say; "That has never happened to me." All I can reply to that is that you don't have what I have then! The joy of the Lord in your life will manifest itself. Ephesians 5:18-19 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; You get "drunk" with the wine of God's Spirit and much of the world will think you are crazy.

"He is become my salvation". Yes He has and that is why I sing and have joy in my heart so much of the time. You sing down here and you will sing in the resurrection: Isaiah 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

"He is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation". Moses was blessed to be able to build the Tabernacle in the wilderness for the mighty God of his salvation. Solomon was blessed to be able to build the Temple. Both were according to God's instruction. Neither was what God's ultimate intent for a dwelling was. John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Yes, dear friends, this is God's desire. This is the "mansion" of His making for His own divine pleasure. God wants to dwell in us. He is telling us to "prepare Him an habitation". How do we do this? Simply by following God's "blue print". As Jesus stated. "Keep His words"! Notice He said if we love Him we WILL keep His words. Moses kept His words and experienced great joy and blessings. David kept His words and experienced the same. The Apostle Paul knew the joy of the Lord and knew it came through obedience to His word.

"I will exalt him." You can only exalt the Lord though obedience to His word. You cannot love Him without keeping His word. You cannot know the joy that bursts forth into singing unless you exalt Him through His word.

Lord, may you ever be exalted by your people that we may know and experience the joy of your presence. My God and Lord we fail you often but we know through confessing to you our sins and turning from them that you are just to forgive us. Lord, David prayed "Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit" (Psalms 51:12 ) and we know through your word You did just that. Holy Father help us that we would not depart from you word and feel the joy depart from us. God we love you and praise you and lift our voices in songs of praise and love unto you. We ask you receive these tokens of our love for you.
In the matchless name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ
Amen

Calvin was born on March 24th, my Dad's birthday. He weighed 9lb 15.7oz, and was 22 in. long. He looks like a 3 month old baby! Ha! We've had Ada here for 15 days and she'll be going home this Wednesday. I'll be following on Easter Sunday after church so Jeremy will be home to pick me up at the airport.
Ada has been such a good girl with us and has been having too much fun to be too lonesome for her mommy and daddy. She has seen her new brother on the video chat and blew him kisses yesterday. 8-)
I'll be checking in a couple of times from Seattle, but I imagine I'll be pretty tired, so it won't be often. I'll be staying a few weeks. Please pray for us all... grin
