He may not have had much sway, if any, in the doctrines, but he was still vital. Without Judas the whole thing would have fallen apart and Christianity would be widely regarded to be on par as the ancient Greek and Roman religions, if it would even be on that level. Who else would have betrayed Jesus? I kinda feel bad for the dude, being vilified for something that had to have been done so their movement which was just a cult at the time could survive after they were gone.
