The Ossipee Range was at one time a volcano, and is now a ring dike which can be best seen from the air.
To see a top map choose your favorite mapping site and seach 03864 as a zip code.
So far as I know 3 vents which are now ponds, are big and little Dan Hole, and Connor Pond.

The tallest mountain in the range (ring dike) is Mt Shaw apx 3,000',which is located on the South West rim.

There is all sorts of lore about the area. I am not a geologist, so I don't know what might be true from false.

It is said this mountain was taller than Everest at one time. If you do bring up a map you will see as near a perfect circle as seems possible in nature.. Many mineral collectors come to find what ever mineral collectors find...
Another near by mountain with volcanic history appears to be Red Hill in Moultonboro, which is west of Ossipee. Mac
