Heavy fog was again stretched over the Grounds, and Detruisent almost crashed into Aswad as he walked through it looking for him. "There isn't much to eat here," he said dimly. The tip of his horn was white with powder, and his shoulders were sweaty.

His recent thoughts had been those that he had tried to keep away, but in fighting them every day they had grown in strength and eventually overtook his mind. There was a possibility that he could be ill. A spirit who lived in the bodies of the dead spoke to him of strange and wonderful things. When he was alone.

Many days had gone and still no other creature besides Aswad and himself had been seen.

Detruisent never explored his new thoughts. He had touched them briefly and let them go. Now he needed only the taste of blood and power. No, more than a taste! He would be well again. Too much dwelling of thoughts and not enough action. That was all. It was simple and simply fixed.

"I say we should leave." The stallion had images of The Flying Aswad.. breaking through the trees of some cozy forest where Detruisent stood, with warm and wounded bodies clenched in his bloodied claws.. like a hawk hunting for mice, Aswad was a hunter.

Still, with his images and resolutions and conclusions, Detruisent could not keep himself from carving "putrid i left" into the stone wall of the grounds.

Aswad nods in agreement. "Farewell." He disappears.
