If my nose gets pressed any tighter to this grindstone, I'll have a permanent divot in it! Whatever happened to the old "work slacking off in August" routine! Personally, I think the Europeans have it right - you work till the end of July and then everything closes and you take the month of August OFF! (i need a vacation. wurf.)

So normal I felt like I had spent an evening in the Twilight Zone! It's funny but when something stressful happens in my life, it's usually BIG. Most of the time, my commute takes 15 minutes (20 on a slow day - I live very close to midtown Manhattan and the commute is a breeze) and nothing ever happens except that the trains occasionally get stuck - last night has a slightly surreal quality to it in memory.

It's not my idea of a picnic. The job I have now doesn't have the flexibilty of my last one (14 shifts to choose from and you never had to work the same one two days in a row if you didn't wish to), but I basically got a 20% pay hike and the agency benefits are better, so I can't complain too loudly. My idea of the perfect shift would be one that ended at midnight. Usually I work till two, but lately I've been pulling a lot of overtime (*to the tune of the pop song summer time - Overtime, overtime, o-o-overtime*...yeah I know, it's cheesy, but it's late and my brain is toast[I passed stupid at about 1 am last Thursday)so I've been getting home sometime between 4 and 5:30am. Now I should say here, that this is my choice. I don't have to stay till 4, BUT, we just bought a car (old, but new to us), I'm having some major dental work done that isn't covered by insurance, I need new head shots, I'm trying to get out of debt....you get the idea. In the summer, I don't have as much money coming in from gigs, so I have to type more to make up the difference. It'll stop after Labor Day - if I don't die of exhaustion first. ;)

> This is tough - especially now when I'm working graveyard, because I find I need a shot of energy sometime around 2:30 to get me through the last hour and a half. I've started buying a generous helping of fruit salad with my dinner, because it gives me 3 things I desparately need - carbs and natural sugar for energy, and water. I drink like a sponge, but working in an over air-conditioned building (ya gotta love NY, the buildings are over air-conditioned in the summer and over-heated in the winter so you can be uncomfortable and dehydrated year-round! [;-)]) really dries me out. One of the things that changes for me is that I actually end up eating only 2 1/4 meals now, because I go to sleep so late and I don't wake up until after noon, so I eat breakfast sometime between 12:30 and 1:00. I start work at 5:30, and the cafeteria doesn't open till 7, so I usually have a snack (popcorn and selzer or a piece of fruit) when I get to work, and then eat dinner sometime around 8. The really hard thing about working this graveyard schedule though is that I'm basically toast the next day and my energy level is very low, so excercising has become the thing I'm really having a hard time with this week - of course it doesn't help that we're having a heat wave (a tropical heat wave, the temparature's rising, OH SHUT UP!)(Sorry, around 5am I generally have no self-control left - rough night tonight) here in NYC.

It's very late, and I'd love to answer this in a sane fashion, but my car will be here in another 10 minutes and I have to sign out.

Hope I made some sense at least. See ya later tonight!

:) LC
