Subject: Coral Redang Island or Holiday Villa as possibilities
In reply to: Sara 's message, "Redang Reef" on Wed, May 25 2005, 5:14:35

Redang Reef is relatively close to Laguna but the dinning area and rooms are not in direct line of sight to Laguna. It sounds like they are just next door to each other but the angle and location of their buildings at a 'L' shape provide the privacy between these two resorts.

An alternative is the Coral Redang Island Resort (CRIR) where there are bungalows. Another alternative is Redang Holiday Villa which is isloated at northern Pasir Panjang beach. CRIR has only 40 units - long house type, semi-detached and bungalows and still relatively isolated until next year when the new resort being built opens.

Laguna the lastest and biggest 4 star resort first open at southern Pasir Panjang in 2003 and due to its success, the northern Pair Panjang beach is not spared from development after so many years. With another would-be 4 star resort under construction, northern Pasir Panjang beach will likely not be the same ever.

Personally, if I was not with the family, I will go for the resorts located at northern Pasir Panjang, at CRIR where it is still quiet, rustic, romantically paradise like club-med style: no room phones, no room t.v., no personal newspaper, no mobile coverage (in 2002) as oppose to southern Pasir Panjang beach: discos, city-style buffets, 'food-court', convenient stores, 'city'-lights and fireworks display - yeah really. It was a total new experience for me. Instead of getting away from it ALL, some of it came to the tiny island of Redang.

Nevertheless, I must admit we did enjoy ourselves due to the night entertainment life that we had been so familiar with, also partly because we were without our daugther and had a bachelor friend with us. We were glad when it ended and did look forward to return home.

Now you see in 2002 it was really special for me, it was my first time at Redang and first time being at a motel, hotel or resort that 'forces' me to take it all in: the sun, white powdery sand, sea-salted breeze, squirrels, geck-gos, marine life, jungle treking and not have to worry about signing chits or credit card bills when ordering food or drinks until check-out time! :). It was a 4 days 3 nights deal and by the end of the 2nd night I only started to really chill-out, relax and let loose from the day-to-day stress of the real world - we were gazing at the stars and moon, as it was mostly pitch black late in the evening. Only then I was able to related to the movie "The Beach" where these people were totally immerse with the island and the modern world is not a primary concern until they needed supplies :) Now that's what I call a real vacation cuti-cuti with no worries until check-out time when wearing a wrist-watch is required and watching time is routine again. We did not feel like leaving when the CRIR boat took us back to mainland. And from Merang jetty a 'race' to head home before mid-night and to avoid heavy rainfall, an arduous 10 hour drive! Memories ... oh well ... good experience though.

Good luck in looking for suitable accomodations :)

Well Tango, i really think you should give us a try. You will be able to get away from it all. No discos or karaokes, no in-room tv or telephone, just a very quiet, private and comfortable place for you to relax and enjoy being alive.

You can still get mobile phone coverage though but you will have to stand on the beach to be able to get reception. ;-)
