Subject: Berjaya snorkelling

I would like to come with my family to Redang in August for the first time.
I would like to have some privacy as well as good snorkelling conditions. But after reading your homepage I fear I can't have both.
So if I stay at Berjaya Beach Resort (I can book it from Germany), where and how can I go snorkelling? Is Redang overcrowded in August?
Do I have to dine at the Berjaya Resort or are the any other possibilities? How far is it from the Resort to the village?
Greetings from Germany

Hallo!!

I am going to stay in the end of june for 12 nights at berjaya redang resort!!Is it still overcrowded in this time? Is it possible to reach some nice reefs by foot or by swimming in a few minutes?? Or is snorkling near the Berjaya Resort not possible?? Is the beach one of the calmest and most beautiful one in Redang, or which beach is the calmest, most beautiful,...???
Is it very loud at weekend, is the beach then overcrowded,...???
What would be the most relaxing time for visiting Berjaya?? Is End of june/beginning of july OK???

With best regards, Manolo

Berjaya Redang does not have a housereef right in front of it. Instead it has very clear, calm waters (it is well sheltered within a bay) with sandy bottom and one of the best beaches in Redang.

If you want to snorkel and see corals, you'll have to venture further out in the bay - the corals are along the sides of the bay. Alternatively, you can also enquire at the resort or at the nearby village (about 5-10 min walk away) for half- or full-day snorkelling packages run by the villagers which cover a few different locations around the island for snorkelling.

You can dine in any of the F&B outlets within Berjaya or the village style restaurants outside.

June is probably more crowded than August as it coincides with school holidays in Malaysia & Singapore. Still, it's possible to avoid crowds if you pick weekdays and avoid public holiday long weekends & school holidays. Check the holiday schedules in my 'visiting' section on my website.

Rgds,
Alex.
