Back from Berjaya Redang Beach Resort (BRBR)
Hi everyone,
Just came back from my Redang Trip (13 Aug to 16 Aug 02). It was really an enjoyable and a good trip. My partner n i stayed @ Berjaya Redang Beach Resort. Throughout our stay, no rain, no jellyfish, no sandflies.
*Rooms* - We stayed at Deluxe chalets facing the garden view. I would say the rooms are quite classic w air-con, hot shower, TV n even radio n a mini fridge. But, somehow i was abit disturbed by the renovation at Berjaya. The noise can be heard cos i was staying nearby the constructions. The staff told me Berjaya intend to extend more chalets with sea views, n the works shall be completed in the 1st quarter of 2004. wow, that's quite sometime for the works to be done.
*Food* - From what i saw, there are 2 main res, namely Palm res where they have ala carte, buffets n steamboats. On wed nite, they hv hawker nite whereby they served local food like satays, etc. The other res is called Beach Grill mostly on western food. There is also a small private res outside Berjaya resort, just a 5 mins walk from the main entrance (near guardhse). The res is called Aima Fish Grill. It's very cheap compared to the berjaya res. We tried the seafood n satays, yummy delicious. i would say the food taste better than berjaya.
*Beach n the Sea* - I would say berjaya beach is abit crowded during my weekday stay there, not very quiet as claimed by alot of ppl. The sea is very crystal clear w very white sand but no housereef, so nothing much to see. I would say pasir panjang beach is much more beautiful n quieter than Berjaya since i went there by speedboat twice to pasir panjang during my stay. Maybe next time, i will definitely skip Berjaya n stay at resorts in Pasir Panjang.
*Snorkelling Trip* - We booked our snorkelling trip not from Berjaya but from those private snorkelling operators. Since berjaya only offer 3 snorkelling sites for RM60 while private operators offers 5 popular snorkelling sites for RM50, we chosen the private operator. Lucky we! cos during our snorkelling trip, just the 2 of us, my partner n i, plus the 2 boatmen on the speedboat for our snorkelling trip n no one else, so much privacy n fun (maybe it's due to off peak period). Saw alot of interesting marine life compared to tioman. :) Plus the bonus is at each site, there were only less than 10 ppl snorkelling around, so not crowded at all. :)
fyi, once our coach from SG reached Shanbandar jetty, we dont hv to transfer to Merang Jetty or Chendering Jetty. Just board the 2 hrs ferry ride fr Shanbandar straight to Berjaya golf jetty there. From there, still hv to travel by a mini-bus abt 10mins to reach berjaya Redang. Tiring but worth it! :)

To Ivy - Re: Private Operators -- tangotee, Thu, Aug 22 2002, 18:20:48
Hey Ivy,
Thanks, will do - I'm pretty bad with details - so this trip I got myself a notepad! Dad always keeps journal of the days' events during our vacation trips. Now, I think I will follow suit. I used to think it ain't worth taking down notes during our trips. I regress, must be getting old, haha.

Anyways, really interested in what you had to say about the private boat operators - RM50 for 5 different snorkelling locations?
- where can I find these folks?
- how many people can I bring on board? I mean, do they count per head of per trip?
- how long was the trip? 2 hours?
Looking forward to your reply...

Hi Tangotee,
To answer your qs:
1)where can I find these folks?
*Ans*: You can call this number at your hotel. Remember each call will be charged accordingly. You can call and look for Zaki, tel no. is 016-9521909. Zaki is one of the boatmen who brought us out for the snorkelling trip. If you
couldnt contact him, you can call his partner Joe, tel no. is 016-9524669. The best is to contact Zaki cos if you call Joe, in the end, Zaki will still be the one who organise everything.
2) how many people can I bring on board? I mean, do they count per head of per trip?
*Ans* - Not so sure how many persons his speedboat can take, i guess abt 8 to 10 person. u can check w him. Yes, they charged RM 50 per head.
3)how long was the trip? 2 hours?
*Ans* - The snorkelling trip started fr 9am and ended at ard 3pm.
HTH! Enjoy ur trip. :)

Re: Back from Berjaya Redang Beach Resort (BRBR) -- Alex, Tue, Aug 20 2002, 15:53:46
Thanks for the detailed writeup. If the food at the kampung is cheap and good, maybe it's an incentive to do the jungle trek from Pasir Panjang to Berjaya Beach again. But this time plan to have lunch at one of the restaurants at the village instead of returning to the resort for lunch!

To Ivy, Sunkissed and Alex -- tangotee, Sat, Aug 24 2002, 2:52:21
Hi Ivy, Sunkissed and Alex,
In 4 hours time, we be driving to Kulau Terrenganu. Thanks for all the valuable information. Will be staying overnight at Grand Continental Hotel and then it is D-day landing at Pasir Panjang Beach for Coral Redang Island Resort. I got so much stuff from Guardian pharmacy that it looks like I packing a first aid bag! ;) I did a lot of waterproofing for the perisables - like it was a real D-day landing, haha. Cheers.
Tally ho!
