Saturday morning, 6:40 A.M, we're a little behind schedule, we suppose to take off at 0530 hours. Traffic was light, moved off from East Coast area to Tampines Express, then Seletar Express, Bukit Timah Express and then Woodlands checkpoint. Cleared Singapore immigrations and customs quickly, and just 15 minutes to clear Malaysian immigrations and customs (green lane - nothing to declare).

Arrived at Ping Anchorage office in Kulau Terrenganu at 5:15 P.M. In hotel by 6:00 P.M. A good 11 1/2 hour road trip. Had a total of 5 stops along the way. Taking the North-South Express way (using Touch 'n' Go card - saves lotsa time). Stopped at Machap for 3/4 hour, switched over to highway 12 to head to Kuantan: get-off at Yong Peng, head towards Segamat by way of Labis. Switch over to highway 3, stopped at Kuantan pass to refuel for 15 minutes (V-Power - best value for money, added power easily overtakes slow moving logging trucks). Stopped somewhere at 216 kilometer stone to K.T. on highway 3 at 1:30 P.M. for lunch - great Indonesian style Nasi Padang, awesome friend chicken. You can't miss it, many industrial workers, within sight of high-powered tension electric pylons, on highway 3 216 km stone to K.T. or 250 km stone to K.L. (same stone).
Average speed has dropped now to 80 km/h, many logging trucks and tankers, route starts to wind here. Stopped at Cherating, two locations, for about 1 hour totally. Made good time to Ping Anchorage, 15 past 5.
BTW - first time driving on the East Coast. Going up was great - average speed 110 km/h. Coming back was much much longer, 12 1/2 hours. 12:15 PM moved off at Bay Bayou day/night carpark at Merang Jetty. That's another hour to get to K.T. town. From there lunched an hour, back on highway 3, stopped to pick up some dryed seafood, sotong, crackers, for about 15 minutes. Raced back to Kuantan pass to gain as much ground before sundown... entering highway 12, started to rain, boy! What a electricial show of mother's nature might, especially in the pitch blackness after sun has set. Speed dropped as low as 60 km/h at some point. Many vehicles slowing down, mostly logging trucks and tankers. Saw pretty bad accident involving two trucks and two lorries, all heading to K.T. while we were heading the other way back to Yong Peng. You know what, the slowdown is not due to blocks on our lane but folks slowing dowing to look at the melee. Siow! Lost 20 minutes just because of that. Rain, rain, hard as though someone was tapping on one's windshield. Customs and immigrantion was a breeze. Quite an experience for first-timers. Arrived back in East Coast past 12 midnight.
Would I do it again. Oh yes! But only if I have the time, it ate up 1 1/2 days to get there and back, worth the view of the sea while on highway 3. Bluest I've seen so far. Not even 17 mile drive can beat that.

I looking at my digital photos and the Nasi Pandang place is called Restoran Balok Makmur, on its right is a Petronas Gas Station. Adjacent to it is a tiny fish 'market' called AB Fresh Mart, address: No. A7, Taman Balok Makmur, 26100 Kuantan, tel: 09-5839599 / 019-9171530, note: phone numbers belong to 'convenient' store (selling fresh fish) that is on the left side of the makan place. Cheap and good food Nasi Padang style. Best to speak Malay to stand a chance of getting info if you need their assistance in directing you there.
To all visitors, please keep Redang and Terrenganu clean and beautiful, it belongs to all of us folks! :)
We parked at Bay Bayou - shelterd carpark cost 10 riggit a day, I repeat, 10 riggit a day. We parked there at 9 AM Sunday and got the car back at 11:30 AM Wednesday, the owner and operator charged us 10 riggit a day, 40 riggit. Did not agree with the charges even if 10 riggit is only 4.50 singapore. The principle of it. Anyways, I would park there as he said, 24 hour security, why? Because, he pointed out, his house is within line of sight to the sheltered lots.
BTW, 5 riggit for un-shelterd lots for the other operators. There are now 3 (or 4) operators, used to be only 2. A sign of increase visitors to Redang driving by car. Good or bad, only time will tell. The lower part of Pasir Panjang beach was littered with man-made garbage, mostly mineral bottle, car drinks, tertrapaks, beer car, straform boxes for take-out burgers, the works lah. :(
Anyways, Blue Bayou is okay. My instincts told me to stay away from other operators who were touting me to come to there location.
