Subject: Redang and Perhentian - confused

Help - I am getting so many mixed messages about where to stay.

In Redang one travel agent says don't stay at Berjaya Redang Beach because of contruction, stay at Coral Redang, another says there is loads of construction at Pasir Panjang.

On Perhentian we planned on Perhentian Island Resort - quiet, good beach and a bar to have a few beers - now I'm told they have construction!

We are after 2 weeks of beach, snorkelling and a few beers as the sun goes down

Anyone got any ideas?

Was at Perhentian 2 weeks ago. DOn;t recall seeing at construction going on.

Redang's Pasir Panjang Beach is forever constructing. Looking at it, it will be ovecrowded soon.

Stayed on Redang and Perhentian last September.
Small amount of construction work going on at Berjaya Redang Beach Resort to build a new service road and some more rooms. Heard no noise at all and only noticed the construction going on between 8-11am - too hot at other times. The building work will not disrupt your holiday.

Rather than trawl back to the mainland and catch a 2nd ferry to Perhentian we hired a small boat for the 1.5 hour trip. This saved us over half a day of travelling.

Stayed at Tuna Bay Resort ( www.tunabay.com.my ) - rooms much cheaper than Perhentian Island Resort.
Tuna Bay was built in summer 2002 with very nice restaurant looking over beach and sea - rooms okay.
Because I run a travel operation in the UK I also viewed the rooms at Perhentian Island Resort - they are much more salubrious, and the hotel complex has more faciltiies than any others on the Perhentians. No other hostels or hotels on the Perhentians are worth any consideration.

Of all the hotels that I visited in September 2002 on Redang and Perhentian there are only 3 that I will allow my UK clients to stay at - Berjaya Redang Beach resort; Perhentian Island resort; and Tuna Bay.
