Dude,
Just to let you know i suffered panic attacks for a time and know how horrible they can be - and how they can affect your life. But have faith they will get better and do go away.
The best way I found of dealing with an attack is to keep telling yourself that it will soon pass, and thinking how much better you will feel when it has gone away.
My attacks were made especially worse if i had a hangover, drank coffee, or smoked, also any type of illegal drug is a no no, is is bound to bring on an attack.
In terms of treatment a friend of mine was perscribed 'beta-blockers' called Propananol. This medicine slows your heart and pulse down, and reduces anxiety, he swore by them and reckoned they cured him. Might be worth asking a doctor about them.
For me, over a long period of time i found out pretty much that by eating and drinking sensibly, taking regular exercise, getting proper sleep, etc etc really helped in the long term. It sounds boring but getting fit helped me, and also gives you a sense of control. Also during an attack i would find doing absolutley anything that would take my mind off it would help, computer games, having a shower, etc.
Try not to dwell on the attacks too much, or worry about having another one as this can make them worse. Remember you might think you are dying, going mad, having heart attack - you are not, and you will be fine. Also a lot of people don't realise how bad an panic attack can be if they havent experienced one, don't let them tell you are over reacting.
There are loads of websites and books about that offer support and guidance, and are well worth checking out as they definatley help. Panic attacks happen to loads of people - and can be brought on by anything, or just simply come out of the blue, but you can deal with them, and they do go away.
Hope this helps
Cheers
