"And I cry mercy
A
cry of freedom to be heard
And I
cry mercy
A
cry of freedom from this world"

His heart leapt at the site of the saline water. The stygian tide was so violent tonight! The antediluvian moon shone somewhere above, buried in the litter of clouds. Oh, how he loved the moon. Nothing was more beautiful than the amaranthine orb. When the sky was halcyon and open, how lovely the luna floated in a vast sea of stars- her splendid leucous sphere contrasting the cobalt welkin. But tonight Jack's most constant companion was no where in sight; but all was well, the charcoal stallion had snared a new accomplice.

Quickly he flanked Chaos, following her through the thick sands. Letting his mind and gaze wander, his strides shortened, causing him to fall behind. His unruly jog was picked up to catch her. How pathetic he was, gimpy and haggard. Once the storms cleared up first thing he'd do would be plunge right into the icy water. How he longed... But for now, the steady patter of rain sufficed. Chaos looked at him and thus he returned the gaze, listening intently to her words.

And then his mind froze. Where did he come from... A life he longed to forget, the shame and anger boiling up inside. Acting as though something lured his attention in the ocean, Jack let his gaze rove to the breaking waves. The boyish smile had faded, leaving a far away look on his pleasant visage. Away his thoughts took him, back a year... He still dreamt about the night of his exile... how lucky he had been to escape with his life. Thoughts continued to churn in his head for about a minute, before the pattering rain thickened and brought him back to his senses. Embarrassed, he turned back to Chaos, the smile once again present.

"Somewhere very far from here."

A yawn lazily spread over his mouth, and Jack heartily welcomed it. His orifice opened wide, revealing a gap where a lower premolar should be. Suddenly feeling a surge of energy, and using a clap of thunder as an excuse, Jack jumped into a gallop. Several choppy strides passed and his haunches lifted for a playful buck. After letting a few more bucks lose, he discharged a loud snort and slid to a halt. With a look of sheer satisfaction, Jack loped back to the pretty maid, all the while jovially tossing his crown. A grin flashed across his visage.

"Sorry about that..."

It had been so long...
