Subject: Fired or Resign

Can a employer give you the option to be fire or resign? The option also encluded that if he terminated me, he would also pull my Georgia Law Enforcement Certication, or if I would resign, he would not pull my certification. At the end, and given only an hour to think about it, I chose to resign so that I would not lose my State Certification as a Police Officer as he stated he would have pulled. Is this against any labor law or any other law, and if so, can there be a civial action against the employer?
