The Rev. Dr. M. Richard Shaull, the Henry Winters Luce emeritus professor of ecumenics at Princeton Theological Seminary and a longtime and widely traveled Presbyterian missionary, died on Oct. 25 at his home in Ardmore, Pa. He was 82.

Millard Richard Shaull was born in Felton, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree and doctorate, both in theology, from Princeton Theological Seminary. He taught at the seminary from 1962 until his retirement in 1980.

He began his missionary work in Colombia and later taught at a seminary in Campinas, Brazil. He and his second wife, Nancy Johns, did volunteer missionary work elsewhere in Latin America in the last two decades.

He was a co-author, with Carl Oglesby, of "Containment and Change" (1967).

Dr. Shaull's first marriage, to Mildred Miller, ended in divorce. He is survived by Ms. Johns; two daughters, Madelyn and Wendy Shaull; two sisters, Jane Keesey and June Stroup; a brother, George; and two stepdaughters, Anita and Sylvia Smart.
