Date Posted: November 14, 2002 11:44:15 EDT Two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division died in an accident on Thursday during an exercise at one of the Army's main training establishments, a spokesman said. The two, who were not immediately identified, were confirmed dead by Ron Elliott, public affairs officer at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Reporters covering the exercise at the Joint Readiness Training Center said the two were understood to have been run over by a tracked vehicle, possibly a Bradley armored personnel carrier or an M-1 Abrams tank. The exercise, which was suspended after the accident, involved urban warfare training, which could be important for the U.S. military if it invades Iraq, military experts said. Troops from the 509th Airborne Regiment were also taking part in the exercise. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
