I just came back from the services for Mr.King and I was touched by the outpouring of emotion that was shown there by all who attended. I must say something on a personal note though.
I grew up in south Los Angeles around the corner from Mr King and was best friends with his son Toby from the time I was 14 years old. The Kings (Celes and Anita) took me under thier wings and I was a really messed up kid at the time, I was involved in drugs, gangs and criminal activities. They never gave up on me, they gave me a place to be (thier home) so I wouldnt be on the streets getting in trouble. They never turned thier backs on me and always treated me with the same love they showed for thier son. I remember them taking me to a republican convention when I was 16 and because my family was too poor, Anita took me shopping and bought me clothes to go with them and they introduced me to another life and world that I didnt know exisisted because all I had ever known in my life was being poor. I could go on about all the stuff they did for me but it would take me forever because that is how much they did for me to take me to where I am in life today. I am alive in part because of them and I live the life I live now by watching the examples of them as parents. I owe them my life because without them I would dead or in prison just like every single person I grew up with. Mr King touched everybody in someway or another but he touched me personally and I love him and will miss him.
