Date Posted: May 17, 2003 6:52:04 EDT In reply to: Honduras 's message, "Jerry Bittle, 53; Created Comic Strip 'Shirley and Son'" on April 11, 2003 4:16:08 EDT Jerry Bittle was not only an incredibly gifted cartoonist who could entice laughs with the perfect expression on his characters face but he was also a generous and kind individual. over 15 years ago when i was still in high school and had dreams of being a cartoonist he gladly took me into his home to look at my art and give me advice and share stories . while i was in awe at talking to a real live cartoonist he also felt the same humble feelings when meeting some of his heroes like jeff macnelly or mort walker. he was also an extremely loving and gentle father to his daughters who would wander into his studio at times. i will never forget the kindness he showed me that day.
