Date Posted: October 27, 2002 4:37:07 EDT Jordan Bennett Lambert, a farmer and the father of Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln, died at his home Saturday. Lambert farmed more than 2,500 acres of his family's land in the region he loved - the Arkansas Delta, where he was born and raised, according to Steve Patterson, the senator's chief of staff. Lambert had suffered for several years from Alzheimer's Disease, Patterson said. Lambert served on the board of directors of Riceland Foods for 23 years and helped establish the Mississippi Grain Cooperative, serving as its president for 20 years. "My father loved this country and this state," said Lincoln, who was elected senator in 1998. "He inspired me to run for public office by challenging me like he challenged so many others. He appreciated the freedoms and liberties we enjoy and believed that each of us should be willing to give something back." Besides Lincoln, his survivors include his wife, Martha Kelly Lambert of Helena; his daughters, Mary Lambert of Los Angeles and Ann Lambert Waits of Jonesboro; his son J.B. Lambert III of Helena; and two sisters. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
