Date Posted: April 10, 2003 9:04:22 EDT James V. Walker, an environmental and military affairs reporter for The Clarion-Ledger newspaper of Jackson, was killed Wednesday in a traffic accident. He was 26. Newspaper officials said Walker was on his way to Natchez, in the southwestern part of the state, to report on a story about a solider who had been killed in Iraq when the accident occurred. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Warren Strain said Walker pulled onto the shoulder of the highway in his 2000 Kia Sephia and was attempting to drive back onto the highway when he was struck by a 1970 Buick Skylark. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, Strain said. The other driver, Maerean Hollandsworth, 37, of Jackson, was listed in stable condition Wednesday. Strain said both drivers were alone in their vehicles. Walker joined the Jackson newspaper in 2001 after working at the Vicksburg Post from October 1999 to January 2001. Survivors include his wife and mother. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
