Date Posted: November 27, 2002 9:51:32 EDT Cecil Dowdy Jr., an all-American offensive tackle who played on two national championship Alabama teams in the 1960's, was killed Sunday in a hunting accident. He was 57. Dowdy was hunting near Helena with two friends when his 12-gauge shotgun discharged while he was wading into a creek to retrieve a duck that had been shot, The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News reported. Dowdy was shot in the lower jaw. Dowdy played for Coach Bear Bryant on Alabama's national championship teams in 1964 and 1965 and the undefeated team in 1966, when he was an all-American. He worked for Randall Publishing Company in Tuscaloosa. He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kimberley Fulcher, of Tuscaloosa, and Cassidy Douthit, of Newberg, Ore.; three sisters, Mitzi Dowdy, of Huntsville, Ala.; Sharron Sparks and Pat White, both of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and his parents, Cecil and Elvie Mae Dowdy, of Cherokee, Ala [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
