Actually, you're wrong. You, in fact, are NOT a screwed up person. You are very loving and caring but, moreover, HUMAN. A person doesn't have to be screwed up to allow themselves to get close to another person too easily. It's perfectly alright to let this happen, and it is perfectly natural to feel as ripped apart by a breakup as you do (or at least did).

However, you have to be careful that you don't get screwed up as a result of a breakup. One of the reasons I'm not attending school right now is because I personally screwed myself up as a result of two "breakups." I had slipped into a VERY VERY deep and horrifying depression, suffered what I thought for a while was schizophrenia, and attempted suicide. Twice. I was in no shape for school, so I'm taking off until the new year.

It's taken several months to be able to understand it fully myself, so I don't expect you to truly get it until you are absolutely ready, but time does pass. Wounds heal (as long as you don't "rewound" them). People change and people disappear, but maybe it's for the best. There's more to life than just people. Take care of yourself and you will find the pieces all falls back into place.

Best of luck to the BOTH of you.
