時空結構是夏衍在《法西斯細菌》裡的一大特色。
第一幕在九一八事變前三天,東京。日本帝國主義對中國的侵略危機使俞實夫的科學至上思想初步感受到了政治的壓力。
第二幕在八一三後的一星期,上海。企圖維持內心平衡的俞實夫在全民抗戰的熱潮中陷入了更深的痛苦。
第三幕在太平洋戰爭危在眉睫的香港,法西斯份子的冒險行為迫使他開始關心政治。
第四幕在日軍侵佔香港的一九四一年底,法西斯暴行的耳聞目睹徹底摧毀了他「科學之宮」的構思。
第五幕在抗戰後方桂林,這是俞實夫採取新行動的起點。
精選的時空不僅令人信服地展開了俞實夫思想轉變的具體環境,而且因為劇情是在一迫一躲的外部動作和不斷尋求與反抗的內心動作中進行,這就令全篇的緊張感不斷增強了。
