I think that as a supervisor it is important for each of our staff's to have understanding of the HD position. If the RA's know what our job entails, I think they will give us the respect we need to do our job. Maybe respect isn't the best word...but they will know why we need to do what we do as their supervisor. It's good to have an open relationship with your staff, but the HD's also need to make sure that there are boundaries so that we are able to supervise our team.
Communication is also a big key to being a successful supervisor. We need to express our expectations to our staff, as well as have them express theirs of us.
