Food is a great draw, but from there you have to keep them there and involved. Maybe show a fun cheesy movie that everyone has seen and can therefore make fun of and chat throughout. Or have some outdoor sports activities or games that everyone can enjoy.

When I was the TA at field camp, one of the things we enjoyed most was getting Red Dawn and watching it without the sound so we could make up our own dialogue. It was pretty fun. :) Everyone got along that night, although it was not always so! Even some people from the University of Texas Field camp joined in the fun.

I think something that builds community is acceptance and some of the best times to have this happen is when everyone is having a good time. Humor really helps this I think. Make sure you encourage everyone to participate, even if it is just to laugh along with everyone else. Take everyone to comedy night, or have karaoke! ;) Hi Laurie!
