Volume 3 will be a trip around the world. Each week will be a different country. Science will be plants and animals.

You ask me about volume 1 after it's been a year since we did it. Now I don't remember as well. Of course, with any volume I have more ideas for presenting information thanks to books like Dinah Zike's that have inspired me. I think if I did volume 1 over again, I would include more ideas for showcasing the information learned both in the history part and the science. I think I would also make the language a little simpler and focus the math more on the basics. I try to use scope and sequences to try to include everything that needs to be covered. But the longer I homeschool, the more I realize just how silly scope and sequences can be. I always try to go beyond what is expected, but what happens is that then it sometimes goes over the heads of the kids and the information then becomes useless. I worry that we don't go in depth enough sometimes, but then I just need to pay attention to what is being covered in the schools. Last year in second grade we covered American history. I saw in our newspaper this week the second graders were learning about community workers. Well, gosh, we covered that in preschool. So I'm trying to relax and just focus more on the basics rather than trying to cover so many different concepts.

Happy Homeschooling!
Sharon
