We'll, i don't know what you consider being "Hair Metal", but for me "Glam Metal" or "Heavy Glam" is that early/mid-80's scene with bands like Mötley Crüe, Ratt, W.A.S.P., Quiet Riot, early Great White, Heavy Metal with big influences from 70's glamrock (The Sweet, T-Rex, Mott The Hopple, Alice Cooper, Slade) and Power Pop (Cheap Trick, The Raspberries, The Who).
"Hair Metal" was more common in the late 80's, the bands was not as heavy as the Heavy Glams bands, and the image was more "glamouros" (look at the differens between early Mötley Crüe and Poison).
"Hair Metal" for me are bands like Poison, Warrant and Pretty Boy Floyd.
The sound was more "pop" and it wasn't as raw as in the early 80's when all the Heavy music was called simply "Heavy Metal", while you hade the Thrash and Glam "camps" in the late 80's.
In America, the "Hair Metal"-label also includes "poodle" bands as theyre called in Europe.
"Poodle" are bassically AOR and MelodicRock bands with that "poodle" image, bands like Bon Jovi, Europe, Winger.
A bit more keyboardheavy if you know what i mean...
