In the tradition of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, Warriors of Heaven & Earth weaves a brilliant thread of battle, comradeship and honour.

Set in the unforgiving Gobi Desert, the story follows Lieutenant Li (Jiang Wen) and Japanese emissary Lai Xi (Nakai Kiichi)—both esteemed warriors and master swordsmen. After decades of service to the Chinese Emperor, Lai Xi longs to return to Japan, but is instead sent to the West to chase criminals. His only hope to return home is to capture and execute Lieutenant Li, a renegade soldier wanted for leading a violent mutiny when he refused orders to kill female and child prisoners.

But when the region’s ruthless overlord threatens a caravan of Buddhist mystics, Li and Lai Xi are bound by honour to delay their personal dispute to defend the innocent. They must overcome the cruelty of the desert, the region’s barbaric bandits, and the brutality of the overlord’s men before they can finally face one another. A classic Chinese epic, packed with fierce swordplay and stunning landscapes.
