Subject: Scalloped fretboards

Hello Shawn,

I am very glad for your current musical direction. I believe that your playing on the record "Icon" brings you even closer to the gamaka microtonals. An obvious thought that comes to me when I listen to this music is the notion of using a scalloped fretboard as a tool for pursuing the gamaka and other such feelings. Have you considered or tried employing an electric guitar with the scalloped fretboard? If so, do you have any thoughts regarding these types of electric guitar instruments?

Also, I noticed an interview that you participated in where you revealed an interest in some of the new electronic music artists and sounds (ie. Bjork and recent production on records by Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani). Have you experienced the musics by artists like Squarepusher, Autechre, Venetian Snares or Aphex Twin (ie. Warp Records, Planet-Mu records etc)? I would be really curious to hear your thoughts on this (fairly) new modern musical movement. I really found something valuable in Autechre's new record, "Draft 7.30". Shoot me an email at cwood@acsu.buffalo.edu if you get a minute.

Thanks Shawn and take care
