Subject: We'll miss Shawn.

I don't know what to say.

I knew Shawn was in really bad health, but I thought that was ... you know, at the expense of his ability to be comfortable and mobile. I didn't know he was gravely ill. I feel like someone stabbed me in the back here.

I'm just another guitarist here, but speaking as someone who has been playing and listening intently for 15 years, 10 of those blessed by Shawn's music, I have to say that not only for what he physically did to change guitar playing, but for his great improvisational skill, and his devotion to his art, Shawn was unique in all of the world. We, the fans of his music are so damn lucky that he recorded as prolifically as he did in the last few years... instead of being a tall tale, there's a record to this legend of a great guitar player.

To his family, this is surely no condolence. I am sure they have all realized his talent, and knew of all of his problems, etc. But I'm sure no one was prepared for this. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of someone so important and so young. I am sorry for your loss, and I wish I could give you guys back even a fraction of the joy that Shawn's music has brought me.

This news will crush thousands and thousands of the worlds great guitar players, so many of whom admired Shawn's honest and beautiful playing. At least we can never forget the guy.

- Chris
