Thanks Ted. It's rare when one beats me, but this one has sure been aggravating. The TFI is original factory. It makes you think the temp sensors are off (ACT/CTS), but they have been replaced with new Motorcraft so we can rule those out. I also have pretty much eliminated valve deposits since I have cleaned the injectors twice and cleaned the induction system, all with professional 3M products. However, maybe with the high miles deposits could be a problem. I usually run 87 octane. Recently I moved the time up 2 degrees and went to 89 octane to see if that would make any difference. It runs better and never spark knocks now, which it did some before. I guess I could use a borescope and look at the valves, but I put an intake gasket on it a couple of months ago and I did not notice any excessive deposits then and I think I would have noticed it had they been present. I haven't specifically checked individual grounds, but it does this consistently and usually a ground will be somewhat intermittent. I have serviced this truck since new and it has been very well maintained. Now you want to know the worst part? Its mine! I bought it from the owner about a year ago. You'd think a tech could at least fix the truck he has access to all the time. It is definitely temperature sensitive. As I said the colder it gets the worse it gets. One other thing I failed to mention is at times the idle speed control is slow to bring it back to idle. It will return to idle, but at times it takes about a minute of running to bring it all the way down to the specs. I have adjusted the throttle stop to the specs and that didn't help a bit unless the specs have changed.
