Subject: 93 Taurus GL 3.0L dies after 5 - 15 minutes of driving

1993 Taurus GL 3.0L (non-flex), 230,000 miles. The car died 2 days ago in a parking lot after only 5 minutes of driving. The car just started bucking and barely moving, even with the gas pedal depressed to the floor. It died in the middle of the lot when I tried to pull into a space (when I let the car idle to make the turn). The car will run really horribly in Park if I press the gas about halfway. If I let it idle, it dies within 15 seconds. Also, when I have the gas depressed I can hear the beginnings of a back fire and it sounds as if I am revving the engine on and off even though I am applying static pressure to the gas pedal. I replaced the fuel filter in hopes that it was only a clogged filter... no luck. I replaced the ignition module yesterday and thought I had fixed the problem, but 15 minutes later the car was dead in the driveway again. The car runs like a champ for the first 5 - 15 minutes and then it goes to Hell in a handbasket. I've heard suggestions that it might be the fuel pump, but why after 15 minutes of driving instead of right away??? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am tempted to light the pile on fire and walk away from it. Thank You!
