Rob, I have a 90 Accord and have experienced problems similar to yours. My car would always start fine in my garage, but sometimes after driving it for a short trip (sometimes even a long trip), it would either not start or start and immediately cut out. For some reason popping the hood and waiting a few minutes would allow me to start the car. I THINK that I have figured out my problem. My car has tended to run a bit hot, particularly after driving on the freeway on a somewhat hot day. When I would get back home, the engine fan would turn on a few minutes after shutting the engine off. The fan would prevent the engine from getting too hot. Unfortunately, the fan would drain my battery. Thus, my battery was continually in a low charge state. To resolve the problem I need to change my coolant soon and I bought an emergency jumpstart battery unit from Kragen. It was $40, which seemed to be cheap insurance for a weak battery. So you may want to check if your cooling fan turns on frequently after you shut the engine off.
